need help using terminal

I am running Novell desktop , I tried to use terminal on serial port 1 to configure a router. I get a prompt linux # but no activity as I would with Windows hyperterminal. I would appreciate any help with this issue.

I think you're confusing the GNU/Linux Shell / Virtual Console / Terminal with Microsoft's HyperTerminal. IE the Terminal is what Bill tried to reproduce in a very terrible way with the Win2k Command Prompt.

What you should be looking for is either
minicom -
cutecom -
