Need help setting up a static IP in Oracle Linux 6.4 on VMWare workstation

Hi,

I've installed Oracle Linux 6.4 on VMWare workstation 10. It is using DHCP. I would like to setup a static IP address and can't figure out how to do it. I am using a laptop with a wireless card.

Does anyone know how to configure this?

Thanks

Yes, there are many documents on Oracle's knowledegebase, and Google also has many how-tos. Did you just try putting "how to configure a static IP on oracle linux" into Google?

http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/...figuration.php
https://community.oracle.com/message/11311901

...are just two of many.

is this a built in wireless card on the laptop ?

or a usb dongle

VM's and built in wireless on laptops do not mix well.

now a usb dongle, that is rather easy to set up

reread the VM documentation on using built in wireless cards

Hi TB0ne,

I've search many sites and tried many different configurations. The configuration that did work, prevented me from getting on the web. But I was able to see my other Linux VMs.

Hi John VV,

I didn't have any problems with setting up a static IP for a Windows VM.

Would you know if this is specific to non-windows OS?

I'll reread the VM doc on using built-in wireless cards.

Thanks guys.

If you could only see your VM's, that means you got a working network configuration, but either your default route was wrong, or you didn't enable bridging from your VM to your 'real' machine. Try doing that first.

Since both VMWare and Oracle Enterprise Linux are COMMERCIAL, pay-for products, you should be able to contact support for assistance.

I am able to set up a static IP by using "Bridge...", instead of "NAT..." for the "Network Connection".

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yes...that's was was told to you in post #5, and it's mentioned in the VM documentation.

Now that you mentioned it (about "bridging" in post#5), you're right. Thanks
