Need help picking a new distro
so i really liked Puppy Linux because it was pretty newbie friendly without having that "spoon-fed linux" feel to it.
also it didn't take forever to download and install and was blazing fast in use. but turned out to be less than full-featured for my needs. so i need to pick a new distro. i'm looking for something that's not gigantic in size and pretty newbie friendly, fast, and full featured (i.e. not missing tons of libraries etc.) PLEASE dont only suggest Ubuntu, unless that's the only alternative for my preferences. *edit* my hardware specs if this helps: Pentium 4 2A Ghz Processor 512mb DDR 60 GB Ultra ATA/100 DVD/CD-RW combo drive 40x CD-Rom drive 10/100Base TX Ethernet |

I will tell you Slackware, but there are many who will give you their opinions, the debate will rage! You have to gather information and decide for yourself. Generally support is easier to get with a more mainstream distro. If you like tweaking with things, Slackware is simple to customize. If you want it to "just work", Ubuntu is a better choice ;-) Try this as well: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php Note: go to the bottom of the page and "Take Test" |
slackware, you can't go wrong.
