Need help partitioning College Linux
I just switched over to linux from windows (although I've got some minimal linux exp) and was using Mandrake 10.0. From the last time I used Mandrake (8.0 or so) it has really kind of gone down hill IMO. There were TONS of incompatibilities and my nvidia drivers wouldn't install it was just a mess. So now I've decided to try college linux. I know how to partition drives but I can't seem to get this to work the way I'd like it to. Here is my situation:
I have two drives hda : 30gb hdb : 160gb I'd like them to be partitioned as such: hda1 = /root (10gb) hda2 = /usr (18.5gb) hda3 = swap (1500mb) hdb1 = /home (160gb) The college linux installer will try and make me declare a root drive whenever I use cfdisk from within their installer. How can I set it up like this when the installer tells me to choose certain numbers for different mount points on one drive? |
Try setting the flag for your root partition as bootable. Haven't used cfdisk in a while but if I remember correctly, that should do it.

That's how I've been doing it. :(

Hmmm don't know then. Go to this site:
http://jetblackz.cjb.net/ The info there has gotten me out of numerous jams. I'll look into it some more when I get my box back up (currently dealing with a KDE upgrade catastrophe) and post anything I find. :Pengy: |
Hrmmm. Well then let me ask this.
I'm not quite sure that what I need has to be done in cfdisk (and the CollegeLinux installer). Obviously Linux is going to make /home by its self if I do not specify which partition to put it on because it did it last night, so how can I change it after the install? Is there a way to delete that mountpoint from startup and replace it with hdb1? |
