need help installing usb dsl modem
Mandrake 9.1
I downloaded linux drivers from speedtouchdsl.com There are 2 files inside the zip, KQD6P1.eni and KQD6P2.eni, thing is I havent got a clue what to do next and I've been looking all day and can't find an answer Oh yeah one other thing I can't unpack them from inside linux, when I try it says it cant copy files to this location, this is to anywhere on the drive even my windows, or my user. In fact I can't copy any files to/from anywhere under linux Sorry if this is a glaringly obvious solution, dam i hate being a :newbie: |
which modem do you have? i am looking at the speedtouch site. i only see 1 driver upgrade for linux. if you have the proper driver downloaded, the solution may be to log in as root. your usr permissions may not allow any installation or conf. changes. a liitle more info would help.

Thanks for the quick reply
The model I have is a speedtouch 330, but I was told the linux drivers will work for all speedtouch modems Any ideas why I cant copy files, do I need to log in to root? |
see the above edit. logging in as root may very well be the solution.

please forgive my noobness, but i've been brought up on windows
well I dont know what extra info to give, other than I installed mandrake 9.1, the security settings were standardand i don't think I had a choice on what privelages to give myself Anyway about the drivers, I have downloaded them from the site, and basically i have no idea how to go about actually installing them, I tried adding it using the wizard in the command centre, it picked the modem up no problem asked me for the 1st install disc, then it told me to go the site, and copy a file, dam i forget the name but it was *.o, copy them to the usr/share/speedtouch directory, sounded good to me but then in the zip file there is no file ending with .o, only KQD6P1.eni and KQD6P2.eni, and that is where I am stuck |
found this through a forum search. it should help.
