Need help installing Suse 9.1 pro
Ok, i have 2 hard drives both are 120gb, on my 1st hard drive(master) i have win xp home sp2, and on the 2nd hd(slave) i have partitioned it so that 80 gb is a logical drive for win xp and i am trying to install suse 9.1 pro on the remaining space which i have partitioned as ext2 using partitionmagic 8.....everytime i have tried booting the suse install, i get the menu but i cannot move down to install i just boots from hard drive after a few seconds.....
Can any1 help me out with this at all Bobby |
What you need to do is just ditch windows completly. Quit cold turkey. I had this same question awhile back nobody answered. SO I just said F#CK winBLOWS! and used all 250gigs for SuSe. Sorry I couldn't be of more help I could if I had the same question answered.

I would but there are a 3 progs for dvd copying(backup) that didnt work the last time i had suse installed and couldn't find any alternative or way around it....Tried Crossover and cedega to try and run them but it wouldnt have none of it......thats the only reason i want to keep windows even tho it annoys the s**t outta me.
Thanx anyway |
Just an observation, but I believe suse uses reiserfs by default,
I do not see why you shouldn't be able to use ext2. You may have to reformat your drive to reiserfs, and also did you create a swap partition?? You are going to need one if you want to install/run linux. any questions let me know. |
Not trying to be a smart@$$, but did you use the arrow key to try to move down? I do telephone tech support and sometimes it is a little thing that is easily overlooked.
You could try cleaning the cd, that might also help. Other than that, I have no idea. Sorry. |
When you say you "get the menu", are you referring to the existing dual boot menu on your machine (meaning either lilo or GRUB) or are you referring to the set of installation options from the Suse installation disk? If you want the latter but aren't getting it, you need to make sure that your BIOS is set to boot from the CD prior to booting from the hard drive.
If you are getting the latter, then as sgood1971 mentioned, you would use the arrow keys to navigate. Suggestion: Always choose the Manual Installation option, as it gives you the opportunity to preload various kernel modules that you may need (such as the NIC). Good luck with it -- J.W. |
did you use the graphical-install tools? if i remember it does a good job on giving you suggestions as to how to partition your drives. I would listen to it unless it obiously is giving bad suggestions... sorry i cant be more of a help.

"Not trying to be a smart@$$, but did you use the arrow key to try to move down?":P
Didnt realise that suse doesnt recognise usb keyboards when the installation page is up.....so that was the problem:P.....but i have listened to SLAY3R and said f**k off to XP and installed suse on my entire hard drive....just had a lil trouble installing my network.Suse didnt recognise the AN7 nvidia lan card which i thought was a bit confusing. |
