need help installing programs on caldera
 

I am trying to install gnome onto Caldera2.4. Why? im a sadomastic(sp?)no really, I want to learn linux and I figured this is the best way to start.Here's the problem:
1)install required libraries,the next set of libraries doesn't regonize the previous set i installed
2)went to ./configure gnome-vfs and says it needs Oaf, OK I got oaf, configured oaf and it says it need popt ver 1.5.OK got popt ver 1.6.2
installed that and ran oaf again still says no!
3)oaf says -lpopt is not newer than 1.5
where in the sam heck is -lpopt!:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
