Need help in partitioning @installing pclos
 

I have 17 gb free in two ntfs partitions. What I'm going to do is.,.

boot 139mb ext4
root 9gb ext4
swap 1200mb swap
home 7gb ext4

Is it ^ ok ?
Should I change anything ?

Since we cannot see your screen, you will need to post more information to get help.
Are you trying to install PCLinuxOS-2010?
Are you looking at a screen which says Manage Disk Partitions?
How many hard drives do you have?
On the screen, there should be a tab at the upper left whichs says sda and below that a horizontal bar which should be divided into the number of partitions you actually have. If you click on any section of the bar, it will show information on that partition in the main window. After clicking on any section of the bar you should see information on that specific partition in the main window below.
You could open a terminal and get your partition information to post here. If you do not have a terminal icon on your Desktop, click on the PC icon in the lower left, mouse up to More Applications and then to the right to Terminals and click one of the options. You need to log in as root, type: su in the terminal and you should get a prompt for the root password which is root. Type that in, hit the enter key then type: fdisk -l (lower case letter L in the command) and you will get partition information. Post it here and indicate which partitions you want to use for PCLinux.

What I do is create 3 partitions: root, swap, and home. A rule of thumb for swap size is to make it around the same size as the physical memory. Having separate /home partition means that you can reinstall or upgrade the system on the / partition without losing personal data stored on /home. I don't see the benefit of creating a separate /boot partition. The root partition should be at least 5 GB if you are going to have a lot of software installed, but you wouldn't use 9 GB. Probably 7GB is plenty for root. ext4 filesystem is fine to use for both root and home.

Hmm...didn't see your and lancek's post, I had to partion it with the amount of space as mentioned above. I couldn't wait to get the PCLinux up and runnig coz I already formatted the C drive where Windows was installed. No other os was there except the Ubuntu 9.04 live cd !!

Anyway, the install went well and man, the pclinux's kde desktop is stunning. Very cool !
Better than Windows 7 !!!!!!

But I'm having trouble in tethering my phone . The Ubuntu 9.04, even from the live cd, can tether my phone, funny !!

I tried umtsmon and it says can't start ppp though it detects my phone correctly and displays operator info etc.
And the network manager say can't access(forgot the actual message) the /dev /ttyACM0 !!
