Exclamation need help in gprof command

i am new in the linux
i am working with the gprof command.
and i need to now that how to gprof analyse (profile) those programs? what command i need to use with program using -pg ?how to compile the programs with a special option to gain gprof outputs?how to interpret my profiling results?
please anyone help
