Need help in getting Linux based project for Masters degree

Hi All,

I am doing my work integrated Master's degree. I want to do a project which can be either linux based application or adding a feature to the linux kernel as a kernel extension. Please give me some ideas for this. The duration of project is around 6 months along with my regular office work.

Thanks a lot

If you're in a Master's program you should be able to find one on your own. Speak with your advisor or other students. Coming up with a topic is not simple and I don't think you're in the right place asking people here for such a thing. Anyone who is involved in an open-source application can give you a list of features that need to be added but whether those work as topics for your thesis is up to the discretion of your advisor.

You could make /dev/null more efficient. It's kind of slow at the moment.

Ask your advisor or the other members of your thesis committee. I can think of a large number of Linux-based masters thesis projects, but unless you're a geologist (or possibly a mathematician), they would not be appropriate for you.

Hi,

Now that we are all aware of your 'needs'. What are your 'deeds'?

What have you looked at to date? What area? Your discipline? Interest?

This is a Newbie forum and not the place. Do a search here on LQ or Google.

You are just fishing or do you have some guidance to a particular area?

Do what is possible to keep modern kernels compatible with i686 machines -- I see planned obsolescence around the corner for linux users! (reference the upcoming meerkat).

Hi,

I have been working on AIX for FVT (functional verification testing ). I know some of AIX internals. Since this is work integrated course, I am not getting what exactly to do. I have searched much on google too. I posted here as there are many Linux experts who can give an idea.

Thanks

Hi,

What does your adviser, prof or whomever is controlling the course structure have to say about this? Since this is a Masters then you will have someone even if work integrated? You will have to present & defend so there is advisory from that panel. Not knowing who or what institution that is controlling the structure it is rather difficult to advise.

What about the other students or workers in the same situation?
