Need help getting to GUI from command line

I just Installed Mandrake 9.0. I am new to Linux (surprise). Everything seemed to install perfectly. When I restarted the computer the boot loader came up (I am dual booting with Win XP) I selected Linux and it came up to a command line telling me to enter my name and password. I did that and the command prompt came up.

Here is my problem. I thought I told it to start up with the GUI(KDE). So here I am. Everything installed fine and I can't get to a GUI. I sure as heck can't use the command line at this point :). How do I get to KDE from here and how do I tell it to start me there from now on?

Thanks for the help in advance.

And hen , if everything is correctly, edit (as root) file /etc/inittab, find line 'id:3:initdefault:', change 3 to 5 and save it. Next time, GUI should start when you boot teh system.

sacknights03, have you modified your XFree configuration? New drivers, etc?

Type

XFree86 -configure

That should get you a good starting point and allow you to start X. If you have some type of GUI X config utility with your distribution, go ahead and use it to get your configuration tweaked for your system.

If that doesn't work you probably have the wrong X installed. Try the older one instead
