Need help getting started

I have a Knoppix distrobution coming in the mail because I have dialup internet and am unable to download a "real" Linux distrobution. Although there are many posts on how to partition a hard drive, I don't understand them and I have no clue on how to partition a hard drive that is already running Windows XP. I am using a Pentium 4 3GHz, 512mb ram, 120GB HD. The only distrobution I have in my hands right now is Damn small Linux, I think its better to use Knoppix when it comes in. Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks
Jon

Knoppix Runs entirely off the cd.
you dont need to install anything to hard disk.

But of you do chose to re-partiton your hard disk,, use qtparted (in the knopppix main menu) its a graphical interface to adjusting / resizing partitons.

Most installable ditro's like mandrake will automatically repartiton your disk for you dureing install, even if windows is already installed, it will set up a dual boot configureation.
