You will need to install alien package from from apt. I open my terminal and
Code:
$ apt-cache policy alien
alien:
Installed: 8.85
Candidate: 8.85
Version table:
*** 8.85 0
500 http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ testing/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
I show it as already installed on my machine. For you to install after checking like I did (if not installed).
Code:
sudo apt-get update
Password then hit enter. Let it update packages first. When done updating.
Code:
sudo apt-get install alien
Password then hit enter (I am not posting from Ubuntu so this sytep may be redundant for password then hit enter. It may install without that step)
Then go to below site and follow the steps provided.
http://techscope.wordpress.com/2008/...in-ubuntu-804/
Steps shown should work in later releases of Ubuntu also.

I got away from Lexmark printers and started using HP printers instead as they are easier to get going.
