Need Help Building Ubuntu Based Flux System
so i'm intrigued by the idea of starting with a bare system, and addings on the GUI and programs as needed to achieve maximum effienciency. but i'm still somewhat new to linux so i need some help.
- should i use an ubuntu server install? i'm told this just gives you a command line upon which you can add things. is there an advantage of going with the ubuntu version over other distro's server installs? - how do i avoid running into a sea of dependency errors and missing CLI utilities? what things will i NEED to install besides X and flux and a terminal? - and could someone help me with install of the system itself? i'm a little frightened i might mess up for lack of a GUI during install. |
update: tried to do the server install. i checked the cd validity, and everything worked fine until i rebooted. it said certain directories couldn't be created, and something about "ubqpoll" i think it was. I didn't write it down because there was so much text, and i sort of panicked.

get yourself a VM like qemu/VMWare and try your setup first. Take notes and then do the real thing. also you could always go the http://swik.net/Fluxubuntu route
