Need help becoming root on USB Live Knoppix 5.1.1
To get my Belkin Wireless G USB Adapter to work in Knoppix, it seems I will have to add the firmware to the correct firmware folder. Unfortunately, when I attempt to do so it says I must be the SU root.
I would like to know either A. How to log in as root or B. How to create a folder and move files in Konsole (I'm not very good with Konsole, CMD or Terminal commands; but I know how to become the root user) Also, in an unrelated question, when trying to save my Knoppix configuration, it won't let me save to the flash drive with Knoppix on, so I have to save to another. I have two questions: Why, and what would be the best way around this? Is there a fix for this; should I partition the flash drive, having a partition for configuration and files; or will I just have to lug two flash drives around? Thanks. |

Hi,
From a terminal within Knoppix you can just enter 'su' and you will become root within that terminal. |
Thanks, but I know how to become the root within the Konsole. What I really want to know is how to become the root, so I can use the GUI to move my driver files to the firmware folder (which only root can edit).

Hi,
As root in the terminal you can move, copy or whatever when you 'su' to become root. You could use 'MC'. |
Something like 'sudo konqueror' might also work, if you have Kde as the desktop env.
