Need help ACPI "sonypi" module Programmable Interrupt Controller

Have a sony laptop, and have installed Suse 9.1, Fedora 3, and Mandrake 10.1 at different times and in the KDE control panel, when I try to enable ACPI features, it always tells me to check to see if the Sony Programmable Interupt Controller is loading properly, and that I need to enable ACPI settings in the ACPI panel( which I don't know where it is). How do I find out about this "sonypi" module?? Does it need to be compiled into the kernel and where can I get it? Where is the API panel. All I have found is settings to cause my display to go to sleep. ANy help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also where can I get info about recompiling the kernel? Thanks
