Need explanation of Linux DHCP
Hi
I'm hoping for someone to help me with a question posed as part of a college assignment. I have no knowledge of Linux and after searching the net have not found a simple answer, hopefully someone can provide it here. The question is: Briefly explain why a Linux DHCP server can service Windows XP network clients (computers and peripherals). Thanks in advance jrus Thank you all for your replies it is what I thought about DCHP it was just the linux part that threw me as I thought it may have been treated differently in Linux and I may have needed additional info |
A DHCP server serves to any clients connected to the network. It doesnt recognize the machine is Windows or Linux. Its just a server.

I'm guessing you weren't paying much attention in class. DHCP is a standard protocol; it has nothing to do with Windows, Linux, Mac OS X or any other OS. As a result, any client on any platform that is compliant with the standard can utilize DHCP.
