Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I need error logs/reports related with Hardware/OS/Performance/Networks for SUSE linux 8.1.
I know the file path /var/log/messages for general error logs but It would be better If you give me suggestion that has more clarity on error logs/reports for this same.
Please let me know If you looking for more info about this.
That's a bit of a general qn. Normally, most logs are stored under /var and you may have to drill down further eg /var/log or even deeper, depending on log in question.

If you're using SLES, I'll add that you need to call Novell support...SLES is a PAY FOR version of Linux, and you're paying for support. Also, there's no way anyone of us here know what's been set up on that server to collect/gather that data, how long it's been running, or where the data is going. Best thing to do (aside from calling Novell), is to ask the systems administrator.
