Need an advice
 

Hi

i wanna use linux. I use macromedia dreamweaver and photoshop cs 2, for to use these programs unfortunately i m using win. Can someone please suggest me a a linux distro that i can easily use dreamweaver and photoshop cs 2. I ll be glad if anyone can help.

Hi Rommeo, You've got a few options. You could try using Wine or Crossover Office to run those two packages under Linux, You could dual boot and use that software natively from your Windows install, or, you could try running Windows from a VM within Linux.

Personally, I prefer to dual boot because, I believe in using the right tool for the job. The two or three programs that I can't live without from Windows, I run natively from my Windows installation. YMMV.

I would suggest trying CrossoverOffice (www.codeweavers.com); Dreamweaver and Photoshop have mixed reviews though, but you can download a trial version of CrossoverOffice and check things out yourself; if everything works then you can pay codeweavers to disable the time limit on your copy. If CrossoverOffice works well, then it would be the best solution (in my opinion) even though you need to pay for it.

If CrossoverOffice doesn't work, or if you simply don't want to buy more software to get your Dreamweaver and Photoshop working, then install "virtualbox" and install WinDuhs inside virtualbox. You probably only need the free version of virtualbox. Some hardware may not work under virtualbox, for example, color calibration devices - so if you use such hardware with your Photoshop, make sure you test it. If you need USB support under virtualbox, you need the paid-for version.

[edit] The hardware limitations I mentioned with virtualbox will also exist in CrossoverOffice.

I don't think wine could simulate every thing in windows, you should search some software on Linux

It's likely that Wine will not emulate all of the options from the software as run under Windows natively. That's precisely why I offered more options than just Wine.

There are some good WYSIWYG web page editors out there for Linux that you can try:

Kompozer is built on top of a discontinued project, NVU, which intended to include a lot of the functionality found in Dreamweaver, so it might be worth a look. The original NVU application is still available to download, but hasn't seen active development in a good long while, so it might be a bit out of date. As Kompozer is a fork of the NVU project, it has seen bug fixes and updates, so you'll probably get better results from using that.

I'm not too sharp on Photoshop and the like, but as for a Linux alternative, you'll probably be looking at using GIMP as it's pretty feature rich.

For now I ll use dual boot option i think if everything does not work very well on linux.
Then i ll try to use alternatives of the photoshop and dreamweaver.
