Need a good book for Red Hat, fast.
 

I have just taken a new position as an Associate Unix admin. I know very little Linux and was hired based on other experience and the work I have done at the company so far. At the end of this month They are sending me to a RHCT course with an exam to follow.

My boss does not expect me to pass the first time, but I would like to impress him. What I need is a good book that will give me a decent foundation in about a months time. I have a background in Windows (MCSE) so a book that compares and contrasts how things are done in Windows vs. Linux would be most helpful.

Here we do everything at the command line, and it seems that many of the books I have looked at focus too much on using a GUI in Red Hat. So something that is command line centric would be great too.

The books i have for redhat/fedora are indeed like you say, centred on it's GUI, o'reily does some great cookbooks with various different tricks and commands, and they also have some sys admin books. To be honest if everything is done at the CLI then you can use almost any Linux book, the problem i find is alot of them were written <2000 and seem a tad out of date.

Personally i would try and look at past RHCT papers, and look at the sort of thigns it asks, then install redhat (fedora is free and mroe cutting edge) and have a go at basic things like adding users/checking logs/writing simple scripts etc. This may also impress your employer that you are taking a pro-active approach to this new position. In conjunction with learning on a system there are PLENTY of online resources to help you, and they tend to be mroe uptodate than printed literature.
