Nautilus Networking... well pooped!
Well I screwed something up, then screwed it up worst and then fixed it - at least half way. I think this is what happend.
I tried to build the 2.8 gnome and it failed (there was a file on the gnome ftp site that does not exist). I 'think' after that (though I can't see how a unsuccessful build of gnome could changes this), but when you click on 'computer' on the gnome desktop, I dont get the icons I used to. Now I see files and they are named, CD-ROM.drive, Network.desktop, etc. If I click on any of them, I get a dialog that says there is no action associated with it. So I can't see my network (Windows shares) anymore. So I uninstalled the gnome-vfs package while in gnome. I got out and restarted, it didn't load at all. So I reinstall gnome-vfs 2.2.2. Gnome loaded but my desktop wouldn't appear and nautilus wouldn't work. So I exited gnome, uninstalled gnome 2.2.2 and install gnome 2.6.x. Now gnome shows my desktop and nautilus works but I can't see my SMB shares. If I click on 'foot'->Network Services, the dialog appears but I never get anything in there. Any help would be appreciated... thanks Ralph |
