nano -w /boot/grub/grub.conf

how come when I enter this now none of my prior edits are there? I mean during installation I put this in:
Code:
default 0
timeout 30
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.13-r5
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-genkernel-x86-2.6.13-gentoo-r5 root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk=8192 real_root=/dev/hda3 udev
initrd /initramfs-genkernel-x86-2.6.13-gentoo-r5
and now when I enter it it is just blank.

now I want to add a frame buffer. do i just enter it or is there a way to get the old grub.conf and edit that one?
