n00b needs help with installation on USB drive

i've searched the forums and found things here and there about installing linux (i'm going to be using slackware 11.0) on an external usb drive. but i couldn't find any real instructions on how to successfully do it. i don't know much about installing linux at all. i've only used pre-installed systems. right now i have windows xp on my laptop, but am hoping to install linux on an external USB drive, so when i want to use linux, i can just plug in the drive and have it boot from it. my bios does support booting from an external drive, so that part isn't a problem. if anyone has any n00b instructions on installing it on an external drive, please forward me in the right direction. thanks :)

give puppy linux a try its made to be installed a usb drive it even comes with and installer to do it for you. You might also give www.pendrivelinux.com a try also.

puppy linux >_> i'll pass on that one lol. we had puppy linux installed on a couple computers at work and i wasn't pleased at all. not to mention... it has a "Start" button.

i'm not a big fan of ubuntu either, but i'm going to try the info on the pendrivelinux page. i also heart mandrake is easily installible on an external. anyone have any info on that?
