Mysql Workbench cannot connect

Hi All,

I have a new machine (11.10) that I am trying to learn on and installed workbench to do my MySql work (all this is local).

1. When I run workbench the splash never goes away
2. I quit from the left side menu and the splash screen goes away and the program starts. 3. I then create a connection (the test connection works).
4. Run the connection and nothing happens. There is another splash screen that tell me...

"Opening SQL Editor. An sql instance is opening for "Connection Name" and should be available in a few minutes. Please stand by"

5. If I wait long enough I can click the Cancel button I get the screen to type in the password. Otherwise, the connection splash screen just goes away.
6. After typing in my password nothing happens.

I have this running on a windows server at work and it does not take nearly as long to wait and does not have these issues. I have made no changes to the initial install of Mysql or workbench. Why is this happening? What do I need to do to make this stop so I can use workbench to access the MySql server?

Thanks in advance.
K
