mysql/web server trouble


i recently re-installed mandrake linux 9.2 on my computer but this time selected the web/ftp server - database server i chose to have mysql installed along with the service.. so where is mysql and how can i connect to it? i need to find out where the mysql files are and if there is like a program to administer in installed (i want to setup a user account for mysql and start installing scripts) need help ASAP.. thanks in advance.

You can use the 'mysql' command from the command line to connect to your server, and the 'mysqladmin' command to administer it. By default, when MySQL is installed it leaves the MySQL root password blank so you can just log in as root, reset the password, and go. I wrote a brief introduction for this awhile back, which can be found at http://miller.webjudge.net/index.php...w&id=4&Itemid= -- it's geared for Windows (when I had to set this up on Windows) but the MySQL commands are platform independent, and so will work on Linux. You should also read the fine manual at www.mysql.com .
