Mysql problem

i have a major issue so i came to the pros. I installed a client rpm version of mysql on my box from

Now yesterday I started mysql by:
mysql -h localhost -u root -p XXXXX everything worked fine untill i tried installing mysql on a new machine. now i get this error

Error 2002: cant connect to local mysql server through socket /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Now i cant find mysql on my machine at all. i installed the rpm and webt through successfully ,very stange. Cant find a directory called mysql????

Very stressed about this

Someone save me

This might help.

From what I've seen, typically the error has to do with mysql pasword hashing.
