I installed mySQL 3.23.54a-11 from the RH9.0 CDs and would like to install a more recent version of MySQL (3.23.58-1).

However when I install the downloaded files using:

rpm -U MySQL* it gives the following error:

file /usr/bin/safe_mysqld from install of MySQL-3.23.58-1 conflicts with file from package mysql-server-3.23.54a-11
file /usr/bin/mysqladmin from install of MySQL-3.23.58-1 conflicts with file from package mysql-server-3.23.54a-11

I decided to uninstall the first version first by doing:
rpm -e MySQL

but after that it still gives the same problems.

Any idea how I can continue installing this new version?

by running "rpm -e MySQL" you are not going to install anything. the package is clearly called "mysql-server" not "MySQL"
