Dear Forums, thanks for your help. I am trying to install mysql-3.23.56-1.9, rpm package on Linux 9. When I download and launch mysql-3.23.56-1.9, rpm there are no error messages for the mysql-server-3.23.56-1.9 rpm, mysql-devel-3.23.56-1.9 rpm, mysql-3.23.56-1.9, rpm client. However when I attempt to start with cd etc/init.d/ mysqld start, I receive an error message that mysqld ended and when I check the mysqld.log it lists the following

030918 17:06:32 /usr/libexec/mysqld: Can't find file:
'./mysql/host.frm' (errno: 13)
030918 17:06:32 mysqld ended
I checked and confirmed host.frm is present in the path listed in my.cnf but when I checked to the processes actual processes running, mysql was not listed. Please let me know any suggestions and many thanks

This is all you need, and read those 14 lines you need that to get that MySQL server up and running!

Dear WiZac, thaks for your help. I ran the mysql_install_db script but I still receive the following error:
ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)

Please let me know if there is something I am missing when I attempt to launch the Red hat package. Thanks again
