mysql binary uninstall steps...

Hi all,

Just need some advice before I uninstall - dont want to do something I will be sorry for later...

I am trying to remove a binary installation of mysql on my distro (not installed through RPM - but a package that I untared and just executed the startup file). The installed directory is /usr/local/mysql...

To install, is it safe just to delete the subdirectory into which I placed all the files ? do I need to do some sort of install procedure ?

If it were a source would make uninstall be sufficient (then delete the directory with the files ? )

Thanks,

This isn't an answer, I'm sorry. Just wanted to be informed if someone answered your question because I would like to know that too.

OK, reading through the MySQL manual, also the app I was trying to uninstall, there is a section that states the directories installed for the program (which all happen to be subdirectories to the mysql directory) Section 4.5 "Installation Layouts" a different section reference in newer manuals.

Based on this, I unistalled, then confirmed that the directories were removed.

Another way to know what files are installed is to type

./configure --show -layout
(verify the position of the dash before "layout")

This lists the files and directories to be installed. I will be copying this list and saving it somewhere for later reference from now on...
