In Suse10.2 I have manage to start the MySQL server however I cannot find the SQL software to administer the server or even the client side. what commands do I need to run MySQL administrator or MySQL client.

You could look at MySQL Administrator, but if you have access to a web server that can handle php, I prefer phpMyAdmin.
