Fedora 16 32 bit
My webcam works with UCView but does not work with Cheese or Skype Any suggestions? |
Try starting Cheese from the command line and capturing any error messages that it throws.

I've made a little progress - found how to get it to work with UCView and cheese but not with skype. If I run UCView with resolution 640 x 480 it works ok. I I go to resolution 1280 x 1040 it doesn't. I get a black screen. If I restart UCView it defaults to the same resolution it had the prior time. If I set the options in cheese for 640 x 480 it works ok - both from the menu and from the command line. It throws the errors below when started from the command line, but works ok with the resolutino set at 640 x 480. I am unable to get it to work with skype - but at my cabin where I have fedora 14 this same camera worked ok with skype. Quote:

Hey thanks for your reply in my thread
I actuactlly have some experience with gtk, i think this error reside in the error of cheese s ript not skype or driver. Gtk is a gui tool that allows a window based view. It rwould be useful if u could find this gui script in cheese and post it . |

Post Script I find that cheese and UCView let me set resolution. If I set o less than 1024 it works and remembers Camera remembers res from prior use. Skype sets to 1024 - without letting me change - and does not work I see this when I use cheese or UCView after Skype - initially it rtemembers 1024 and does not work I may remember cabin wrong - we have 2 computers there - I am now not sure it works ok on my f14 Will take it up there next day or so and see if I remember it right It may be that skype ignores whatever is stored from prior use and sets it to 1024 and in this environment (or maybe everywhere) it does not work at 1024 ..(Typed quickly and sloppily since under pressure from spouse to attend to her) Anyway the prob seems to be that here in gf16 skupe tries it at 10234 and here iin f16 it does not work atr 1024 |
Fixed - I upgraded to skype 4.something
f16 yum update did not find it - but I went to skype web page and they promote it and when you tell it to download it asks which distribution you have - f16 is on the list - camera now works with skype Thanks all |
Glad you got it working.
