My PC does not mount VCDs -Fedora Core 6 on i386

I am using FC6 -Zod without network connection. From installing till now, I could not play VCDs (event mount them!)any more. Otherwise, other kinds of CDs like data, mp3 or pictures ones... could be mounted without any trouble.
(I have tried with mplayer, totem, rythmbox, and just errors found.)

I use gmplayer for everything vcd/dvd and other video files.

The easiest way to get it working, is to add the livna and freshrpm repos then run:

Code:

yum install mplayer-gui
It will sort out the dependencies on its own (and their are a few). But to do so you will need some sort of network connection.

If you are doing it manually, you need at the most basic level, these packages. Remember to change x86_64 for i386 if you dont have a 64bit cpu.

Code:

lame.x86_64
xvidcore.x86_64
aalib.x86_64
fribidi.x86_64
lzo.x86_64
libmpcdec.x86_64
libmad.x86_64
libmp4v2.x86_64
faac.x86_64
ffmpeg.x86_64
mplayer.x86_64
mplayer-fonts.noarch
mplayer-gui.x86_64
glib.x86_64
gtk+.x86_64
portaudio.x86_64
lirc.x86_64

You can pick them up at http://rpm.livna.org/ .

If internet is a problem here, then maybe you can try other distros which come with full multimedia support out of the box.

PCLinuxOS

SabayonLinux

hello bbx...
may be your cdrom lens has weaken bcoz of dust etc..
try cleaning your cdrom using some lens cleansing cd.
that might help.

one more thing linux does not recognize *.DAT files bcoz of propriety reasons.
since vcd has .dat files may that why it is not opening it.

also chk that you have all the pakages regarding media installed from the source cd.
