as long as u login as root, u should have permission to write to all files...

and dont worry bout being a noob... Im one too... been using Linux for almost three weeks now.... it takes some time to get used to, but once u start learning, its great.... :-)

This is how I get root access to those files. Start thingy then Applications Then File Tools then 'File Manager - Super User Mode'. That will ask for the root password. Then you navigate to the file you want to change and then right click on it and select open with kwrite. You can then change those files.

I even put a link on the panel for mine. makes it faster to get to.

Don't work to hard now
