My Linux on VmWare is slow

I have Windows 8.1 Update as my HOST operating system.
I have installed vmware workstation and installed on it the latest
version of CentOS (7.0) as Guest OS.

I have 8 GIG of RAM and have allocated to VmWare around 5GIG~.
HDD size is 30 GIG.
I also have de-fragmented the HDD.

From the beginning of the installation of the CentOS it was SLOW. It is NOT a sudden change or decline in performance.

Formerly, I had installd CentOS 6.4 which worked OK and had not speed problem while I just had allocated 1 GIG of RAM. Where do you think lies the problem?

No one has any solution??

are you saying you have a VM within a VM? Because you said that the Win8 is a guest OS so that implies it is also a VM.

your_shadow03 01-20-2015 08:02 AM

Did you perform full installation of RHEL 7.0?
When are you seeing the slow performance?

mostafatalebi 01-20-2015 08:17 AM

Oh big mistake. No, Windows is Host and Linux is Guest.

I have installed a full version of CentOS 7.0 downloaded from their own site. And it has been slow from the very beginning of the installation. Of course not totally limp, but it is slow a little bit, and it becomes a little slower when firefox launches, and naturally when I open up IDEs.

Looks possibly that you have assigned more RAM to VM . Because of that your Windows host has now less RAM to actually work over the virtualization software.
Decrease the VM RAM size to 2 GB and see if you see any improvement.

Ummm...did you install VMware tools?

mostafatalebi 01-20-2015 09:04 AM

@your_shadow I test what you've said tomorrow. Thanks

@ihatewindows I have installed. Though it's little buggy for centos 7, not a big deal, share flder's installation sucks. Other things seem to work.

mostafatalebi 01-21-2015 01:30 AM

I have changed it to 2.4 GIG RAMs, and nothing has changed.

Please install a separate VM with CentOS 6.6 (which is the current 6 version) and check if it's as slow as 7?

TobiSGD 01-22-2015 07:42 PM

Likely not the issue here, but what CPU is your system based on? Also, have you checked if hardware virtualization is enabled in your motherboards BIOS/UEFI?

Just had an issue with Ubuntu on my old laptop that might be of help here:

Went to install Ubuntu and everything was dirt slow. It was because the graphical effects were being forced. Try booting CentOS in basic graphics.
