My instructions are for Linux, but I work in Win...what is the win equialent of (~)?
 

I'm trying to learn how to use 'R' for statistical computing...i'm in the first module and a string has the character ~, but it's mini and superscript? R is supposed to be run in UNiX, but i am in WIN 2000. is there a win equivalent to this symbol. i'm really stuck..thanks.

If it occurs in a file path, it means where your home directory is. So if your username is joeuser, then ~/address.txt would expand to /home/joeuser/address.txt

In this case under Windows the closest equivalent would be C:\Documents and Settings\Joe User\

Other than that there's no special meaning in GNU/Linux to the '~' character.
