[SOLVED] my first slackware experience not going so well

OK. Thanks MCMLXXIII. Working on that now. This looks very similar to how I made the isohybrid on my usb. But maybe I did have the usb mounted when I did the dd command. Anyhow... I'll let you know.

OK. I tried what MCMLXXIII suggested. I have the isohybrid on the usb. On command fdisk -l I find my usb drive is /dev/sdb1. It says it detects a slackware disk and lets me choose base linux system (A), but then it brings me to the same screen as before:

Before installing software, complete the following tasks:

1. Select source media.
2. Set up your target Linux partition(s).
3. Select which software categories to install.

I really want to know what is causing this screen to come up. I try to go through the steps 1, 2 and 3 but the problem is that step 1 is what is bringing this screen up.

Before you type setup did you partition the drive first using either fdisk or cfdisk? You'll need to do this step first before proceeding with setup.

Yes. I did that using cfdisk.

Okay, so after you setup your partitions via cfdisk, you type setup, correct?

Then what step do you choose after you type setup?

Then I choose the slow format to check for bad blocks, then I setup the root partition (also slow format), and then setup the /home partition.

Okay, so you set up your Swap and Target partitions, correct?

Afterwards you choose the Source in which case it's Install from Slackware DVD or CD drive and then Manual and then Custom and then type /dev/sdb1.

What happens after this?

Sorry for the late response. I wanted to reproduce what happened to I could be as accurate as posisble. What happens next is it brings me to this page:

Then I just choose "A" because there is no option for "full" like it seems there should be from instructions. Then it brings me to this screen:

I have a question. When I am in setup and doing "select source media" option, which iso file is it looking for? Is it the slackware64-14.0-install-dvd.iso or is it the slackware-14.0-source-dvd.iso?

The method I quoted above works for me. Not sure why it's not working for you?

Have you tried the unetbootin method?

If not, go ahead and grab the Slackware iso for your USB using unetbootin. Follow the same steps as before [cfdisk] [setup] [swap] [target] then when you get to [source] choose Install from hard drive partition and then /dev/sdb1 and then type /slackware64

You'll want it to look for slackware64-14.0-install-dvd.iso

The method I walked you through is the full Slackware iso which includes the Slackware tree to the USB drive.
