my first question to the forum


My server is coming to single user mode automatically.
Can anybody suggest,what could be the problem

check /etc/inittab

check for this line

id:1:initdefault:


change 1 to what runlevel you want it to boot up to.

Well, you didn't use a good subject line for your post, you don't say what version/distro of Linux you're using, or on what kind of hardware. You also don't provide any details about your setup. Please read the very first thread in this forum, entitled "Please READ this before posting", it will help you.

Or are you asking about the problem on your Linux system?

How about some details? Did you set the system up to boot that way? Is this a new installation? Have you configured X windows? Has X EVER worked on this box?

Activation of Linux XP

I recently down loaded Linux XP,It works well except I have no sound.
Also it indicates that I need to activate,the activate window calls for a registeration number, which must be different than my activation I.D.
So how do I get a registeration nomber???

My pc is a gateway.
