my customized xmms keybinding file gets overwritten

my customized xmms keybinding file gets overwritten
i edit the keybinding file for xmms located in ~/.xmms/menurc, but everytime i start xmms it uses the old keys instead, and then it overwrites my file. why and how do i fix?
