my computer type (i386)?

i'm trying to get linux to recognize my WLAN connection. I tried to install ndiswrapper, but it says that I can't on my computer type,
i386. I get this same message on other applications that I've tried to install. What can I do, if anything to get around this?

Could you please post the exact error message, as well as exactly what sort of computer you are using? Also, which Linux are you running?

Thanks
