As far as I know, NO. You don't even need a separate /boot partition.

it can easily be logical.
you can have lilo or grub in the master boot record booting any partition
you wish.

I installed my Grub into the MBR and didn't create a separate /boot partition, IMHO, this is the only way to go if you are going dual boot or more.

talk about where it must go is only relevant if you have an old bios that has the 1024 cylinder problem.

Then you must have /boot below c 1024.

Since you are newish I would suggest you leave your partitions alone until you find reason to change. LIke an upgraded RH.

/boot doesn't have to, but grub/lilo does

aus9, when u say if you have an old BIOS what u mean old? as in 10 years old or 2 cause my computer is about 3 years old. Would i have the 1024 cylinder problem??

then do a google for your bios maker, AWARD or phoenix or whatever and the manufacturer of your board and model.

you may have to upgrade your bios. I am NOT saying you have to as that may not be the issue. downloading the files to make floppies to load into the rom for bios are not things to be taken lightly. check is there is an easier way
