Right click on the desktop anywhere. Select Configure desktop. Then under background/wallpapers there should be a check box to use one background for all, uncheck it. If this doesn't work I will walk through it and get back to you. I am away from my linux box at the moment..
when i right click the desktop, all i can do about the background is select "change desktop background" and in that window i can just change the picture and whether its tiled or centered and the background color. ive been looking around and i read a post and i might be able to change it in the Gnome Control Center, but i dont know how to get there either hehe.

Gnome control center should be on the task menu when you click the foot. I use KDE myself so I am doin this from memory. I will check it out later tonight and get back to you.
ah, well i found control center, and its the same thing as when i right click the desktop hah oh well, thanks for your help, hope to hear from you soon.
