Multi-boot partition advice / opinions?

I've been using Slackware for a bit now with Dropline & to a lesser extent XFCE & love it. On recent trip to a computer store for some CDRs I ended up buying a DVD RW +&- drive for dirt cheap - I still needed media so I got some new DVD-R's

Anyway - k3b seemd the best option for software, & rather than pollute my slackware with KDE, installing Mepis on another partition seemed like a good way to preview. I must say I'm very happy with Mepis & will probably spend a while flipping between that & slackware. I plan on a fresh install across the disk with space for Mepis, Slackware, any random linux I care to try, possibly XP to run a spefific software


I plan to have a shared /tmp partition across the 2 main distros at least & was wondering what people would recomend for teh size. I'm using a 160gig HD & currently have 5gig for my temp partition. Is this enough, given that my DVD drive can possibly handle dual layer writing?

Any cautions against sharing a /tmp partition?

Also I currently have 3x350mb swap partitions roughly at the start, middle, end of the disk - is that worth doing? It's just something new I've tried recently but haven't really noticed any differences.

I don't reccomend sharing a tmp partition. If Distro X and Distro Y somehow wrote a tmp file for the same app, the distros could get confused and potentially mess up your system. Also, distros can share the same swap. I'd do 45 GB for root, your RAM amount x2 for your swap, 7 GB per tmp, and split the rest for whatever you want (Windows, /home partition, etc.)

I think I might just go back to using Slackware alone. Mepis comes with an installer & it wouldn't let me asign any partiions other than / & home. Even for those 2 I was given a choice out of a drop down box - so I couldn't use my largest partion as a /home

I was getting fond of apt-get too
