MTD blocks for newbie - need information

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could clarify the relationship between MTD blocks 0-4 and hard disks. I may be wrong but when we look at /dev/mtdblock/0-4 for example would this be the same as looking at a hard disk with multiple partitions on it? I am having a lot of trouble visualising the structure of these?
