MTA fails

I installed Xmail on my linux machine. Replaced sendmail in usr/sbin with the sendmail provided by XMail.

Now the system hangs on boot up during MTA initialisation.

How do i diagnose the problem? How can i choose not to load the MTA during bootup

Sanjay
