I've recentely installed MSWord on Wine and I would like to be able to open word from a launcher in the task bar, but so far I haven't manage to get it working.
the command to start word from the terminal is: wine c:\\blah/blah/MSWord. When I try from a launcher it open a terminal for a fraction of second then close it.
I'm running FC3.
Any help much appreciated.
I forget the name of the project, but there was one started on porting Microsoft Office to linux specifically, not going through wine. If I remember the name I'll pm you but I'm at a loss right now for the name. You may want to look into that, maybe they have something you can use to put in the task bar.
Umm...I don't think so, this has already been released and seem like it had been around for a while. I read about it in a forum, I wish I had bookmarked the link.
Are you talking about Codeweavers Crossover Office?
They took wine and made it a little more usuable for newbies and have certain programs, such as MS Office, that are guaranteed to work. Although, it's not free and does not support Office 2003.
Yea that's what I was thinking of. Thanks. I didn't know it didn't support 2003 though, I didn't read too far in about it, just knew it made it easier to run Office.
Sorry I was away for a while.
Thank for the replies.
To answer to Ror, OpenOffice is good but does not open complexe word document proprely and very unfortunately most people are more likely to be running Word than OpenOffice.
I also was aware of crossover office, but the turn off about it is the price. It's more than $0
The thing is that I already got Word working under linux. I can easily launch it through the terminal. What I'm trying to do is open it up through a launcher from the panel bar. So far all my attempts have failed.
One would assume you paid a fair sum for Word, too? Then it is actually more of a question of protecting your investment...
Anyway: Most import problems With OOo are fint problems. If you copy the Windows fonts you are much better off when importing from or exporting to .doc with OOo.
