Use the program "gaim" (may or may not be installed on your system, should be on your cds though). It allows you to talk to people on MSN, ICQ, AIM, and quite a few other protocols, and I like it more than MSN messenger...

create a new profile, enter your data, possibly (depending on your version of gaim) select MSN as the account type.

OK, I downloaded that file and after the "Preparing System Update" nothing happens. And the program is still v0.59.8..........
Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

that means it hasn't installed properly. What distribution are you using? Is it RedHat? How exactly do you try to install the file?

I try installing it by right clicking on it and then clicking open.

try the following on a console prompt (after changing to the directory with the rpm file)
rpm -Uvh <rpm-file>.rpm
and post the output.

I always found gaim had more features, and it definitely supports more protocols... it's largely a matter of taste in the end.
