Msn like IM programs?

Just curious if anyone has a good recommendation of an easy to install (possible rpm) IM program that would run on the msn im network.

gaim, amsn, kmess. all these have dependancies though that you need to fulfill. amsn has no install, though. it's just untar and run. i had no problem compiling gaim though on my rh 7.3 system though.

i went to the dir i downloaded it in konsole, and typed in rpm -i rpmnameofkmess.rpm and it seemed to install it, got no errors, although I did get some lib errors or something when I first tried with out being in root. But in root it seemed to work. Please help. I feel pathetic.

oh lord. I feel retarded.

Let me ask you another question though. Is there a way to make it run with out having a console open at the same time?

like make a desktop shortcut? assuming you're using kde as your desktop environment, just right click on an open space on your desktop and choose Create New > Link to application. the first tab that shows up is the General tab where you can give your shortcut a name, like kmess, etc... here's probably where you can change the default icon of a generic short cut to a program by clicking on the icon. then click the Execute tab and in the command text box, type in "kmess" with no quotes. click the okay button and you should be able to start kmess by clicking on your desktop shortcut.
