MSI NX8600GT driver for RedHat 5 (kernel 2.6.9-55.ELsmp) on Athlon64?

Dear experts,

I think the subject line says it all... To be precise my card is an
MSI VGA NX8600GT-T2D256EZ-OC/D3.

Since the system so far does not recognize it and the resolution is appalling, I'd be grateful if anyone has a solution before I become cross-eyed or worse!

Many thanks,
Maya

install the drivers from http://atrpms.net/dist/el5/nvidia-graphics/

redhat 5 is *NOT* the place for fancy graphics though, it's a server, not a games machine.

The default nv driver *should* normally do the job, have you actually tried changing the resolution already.

thanks but actually it's RedHat 4 (sorry I was mistyped!)

Dear Chris,

Sorry for the typo and thanks for your reply. Anyway, since I'm really a newbie when it comes to graphics cards and the like, which one should I choose?

Actually, it's not for games but rather serious physics visualization.

Cheers,
Maya

yeah... rhel4 it is... http://atrpms.net/dist/el4/nvidia-graphics/ just pick the one with *exactly* matches the kernel you're running.

again though, not really a rhel thing, using ubuntu or fedora makes the graphics side of things much simpler...
