Mplayer problems installing it on mandriva 2006

my problem is i try to install player and it says I did ./configure before that happened

You are not using a supported compiler. We do not have the time to make sure

everything works with compilers other than the ones we use.  Use either the

same compiler as we do, or use --disable-gcc-checking but DO *NOT* REPORT BUGS

unless you can reproduce them after recompiling with a 2.95.x or 3.x version!

i dont really know what a compiler is or where could i get one and theres may versions of linux so im lost i be thankful if you could guide me in how to install mplayer

any help is appreciated

Compilers and stuff can be hard to understand, definitely. Have you tried just using urpmi to install it? Just log in as root, then type "urpmi mplayer" without the quotes. If you haven't set up urpmi, try easyurpmi.zarb.org for help.

thanks for the help i was able to install it now i have no idea where is it :p

i dont really know how that urpmi thing works but i did something like that before that so i just typed urpmi mplayer

im lost to where it installed it or if is working or not
i want the mplayer pretty much to play wmv

Open "configure your computer" then "Install software".Type mplayer in the field near to Search buton and press it.In the results below choose mplayer and mplayer-gu.Install them.
About gcc you need version between 2.95-3.x.
Where to find - in the same place "Install software".

You can find it in Start--> Multimedia

one more thing how do you unistall something you installed with urpmi

Configure your computer" then "Remove(or uninstall) software".The same as installing.
About bad signature choice is yours,but when you know where from come software I don't see problem

one of the plugins i had on mozilla din't let the video play i just unistalled it now it works fine

i appreciated all the help I been trying to do this for a while :D

few more question how do you find the path of a program
like i have a program and is asking what program to use and i need to use the mplayer for it but theres no right click and properties like windows that will tell you whres the program and when i do search it doesnt tell me where it is

damm got another problem now i went to the site and it says

so i need to unistall and install mplayer back again but before that i have to put the codecs in that folder
i managed to make the folder codecs on there by using the command mkdir but now im trying to drag and drop the codecs there and it wont let me put them there for some reason so i think i have to use the commands cut and paste but im not sure what commands those are any help is appreciated

Install the package 'win32codecs' (no quotes) the same way that you installed mplayer - using urpmi or menu->System->Configuration->Packaging->install

The whole point of having packages for stuff like this is that you don't have to go through tedious and difficult manual steps like they list at the mplayer website :)

i dint find the win32codecs packages for some reason when i did search i installed all the mplayer codecs that i saw and i don think i saw a win32 codec package because im not able to play some codecs that i should be able to if i had the win32 packages

Ahh sorry its win32-codecs and its in the PLF-nonfree repo that you setup at easyurpmi
