MPlayer problems...

I'm using JAMD and it already came with MPlayer loaded. The long and short of it is, I have 2 DVD drives. Right now they are named Cdrom and Cdrom1. I throw the DVD in and nothing happens.

Yeah, I'm a newbie. What was your first clue?

hehe

Any ideas?

Update: I changed the dvd device to cdrom1 and now it plays as long as I open the DVD disc first. In other words, it doesn't play when I just put the DVD in. In fact, even if I put the DVD in, it won't recognize it until I select DVD | Open Disc first.

Any ideas?

Update: When the DVD plays I here the music part of the movie, but no voices.

I have to admit I'd never heard of JAMD, but coming with mplayer pre-installed is certainly good.

Unlike MSWin the default action for linux is to do nothing when a CD/DVD is loaded in the drive. The menu system and how linux ties files to particular applications depends entirely on the distribution you are using, and how much it's been customised.

The most basic way to use mplayer is from the command line. Open a console or terminal window (should be an entry in the application menu) and enter the command 'mplayer -dvd 0' (change the 0 if you want to play a different track).

If that doesn't work you should at least get an error message telling you why.
